You will see a small icon of a gas pump. If the handle on the gas pump extends to the left, then your tank is on the left side. If the gas pump is on the right, well you know how this ends. Enjoy.

On many new cars there is actually a little triangle arrow which looks more like interface cruft than a useful thing, which also indicates which side of the car the gas tank is on.
