Holiday Matinee’s May Mixtape!

This month marks a year of mixes from us and we’ve got no intentions of breaking up the band. This time around we’ve got some fresh Phantogram, New Pornographers and Beck – and of course we love to kick our hip-hop old school. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, friends don’t let friends listen to Top 40.

Celebrate collaborative design tonight

Mission #3 of the Fiesta Movement had us creating collaborative apparel design between Ford’s Fiesta and Quicksilver’s ROXY brand with the help of artist Tocayo. We went regional with it, drawing upon Baja California, surfing, campfires and more for inspiration. To celebrate this fun project, we’ll be at Super El Camino in Little Italy tonight from 7-10 PM. El Camino will be hooking everyone up with free food for the first hour, but only if you RSVP. Sezio will also be screen-printing this awesome design so bring an Andrew Jackson ($20), or your own light colored shirt and an Abe Lincoln ($5).

Beer transportation is serious business.

Your bike’s too beautiful for bungee cords, so fasten a freshly filled growler to your ride with these classic straps instead. Thanks to Walnut Studiolo, 24 inches of upcycled leather joins forces with your rear rack to keep things suave and secure throughout bumpy cycling adventures. If you’re a rider after my own heart, accessorizing a bicycle never ends, so I suggest pedaling over to their Etsy shop. It’s stocked with lots of leather goods, like u-lock holsters and personalized seat bags, and all of their products are hand-crafted with love in Portland Oregon. Unfortunately, beer is sold separately. [via Selectism]

Any bigger and I’d have to join the circus.

On the never-ending quest to empty my inbox, I’ve come across some enticing offers, and while purchasing Rolex knockoffs or enlarging a tiny penis aren’t on my list of pressing to-dos, the subjects of said emails always make me giggle. In the Spam One-liners illustrations, Linzie Hunter shows her appreciation for the carefully crafted subject line by turning flimflammery into delightful, hand-drawn doodles. A few prints are available here, but I’m adding the postcard book to my wish list immediately. Junk email has never looked so good.

What six bucks led to for a man doing some job searching

A formerly unemployed man named Alec Brownstein figured that some creative directors would Google themselves to see what would pop up, so he bought Google Ads for them saying that they should hire him. He managed to get interviews for all of them, received job offers, and now he’s working for a company in NYC. I won’t be surprised if some job seekers will try to pull this off. If only job searching was this easy and blog-worthy!

Let’s take a trip back in time

I’m not sure how I missed something this awesome, but my buddy Rob just sent me a link to Andy Gray’s SI Vault Twitter feed. It’s the funniest collection of pro athlete photos I’ve ever seen. This could seriously keep me entertained for hours.

If only thinking looked as snazzy as this

In this really short film directed by Davis Sillis, the thinking process involves a cigarette,  a martini, and orange juice. The smile on the actor’s face at 5 seconds into the video was great indication that the next 55 seconds would be awesome, so brace yourself for it when you watch it. I give this video cool points for not using a horrible intro sequence using a colored background and title text in the Papyrus font face. The fake old film style of is nice, too.
