Kittens are such a downer.

Loneliness. Despair. Kittens. My eyes are shooting lasers over these handmade notebooks. Made with two hands in Portland, Oregon. Amazeballs.

Bring a little Hollywood into your home

It might be a week late for a witty, Oscars-inspired offhand remark, but it’s always a good time for retro movie posters. Self-proclaimed film fanatic Claudia Varosio has dedicated her Etsy shop to just that: illustrated cinema posters infused with a hint of vintage. Her tastes range from classics (like Singin’ in the Rain) to cult (Donnie Darko) and everything in between. My favorite posters are the ones that feature a small detail from the movie (who remembers the penguin reference in Fight Club?) — although I was sold on the simple, colorful designs from the start. Did I mention that most of the posters are in the $20 range? Done and done.

You’re responsible for how awesome your life is

We sure don’t hide that we think Holstee is rad. I mean, ever since we read their manifesto that’s like the CliffsNotes for creatives on how to live happily, we knew we were destined to be friends. And so we just have to tell you that the team decided to print up poster-sized versions of the new commandments using an old school letterpress machine. Is it just me or is life so much simpler and manageable after reading this?

The blue jeans of cars

The third best-selling model in automobile history, The Renault 4 celebrates it’s 50th anniversary this year. I’ve never been much of a car enthusiast but damn, this is one hot-shit vehicle. Unfortunately, there are no plans for a reissue of the 60′s icon so we’ll have to settle for this photo archive on designboom.

Less “me” and more “we”

Remember moaning and groaning about having to work on group projects in school (especially when you couldn’t choose your friends as your team)? Maybe part of growing up is realizing that sometimes the old axiom “two heads are better than one” isn’t just some cliche expression; our How to Be Creative series even lists surrounding yourself with good company as a #1 priority. This poster comes from the awesome online portfolio of designer Tom Lane, otherwise known as Ginger Monkey — it’s a great, simple design… and a little less harsh than yelling “THERE’S NO ‘I’ IN TEAM, PEOPLE!” during your next group meeting.

Just one of the guys

There’s something incredibly sexy about a woman that turns heads without flaunting the goods. You know, the kind that drinks whiskey, plays drums in a metal band, and prefers mountains over malls. It’s not just about the trousers she borrowed from her brother’s closet, but also the wild confidence that oozes from her every move. She doesn’t brush her hair very often or wear a ton of makeup, and her opinions are better than yours. Yep, lots to love over at my new favorite site, Tomboy Style.
