Indie Shuffle App: Your New Sidekick in Music Discovery
In case you didn’t know, one of our former contributors, Hannah Simon is also Editor-in-Chief at the music discovery blog Indie Shuffle. She had been telling me about their app for some time and this past week, the Indie Shuffle app made its debut.
I needed to play around with it for a few days before writing a review that had the equivalent depth of saying “Woo! New app!”. But having taken it for a spin while cooking dinner and disassembling furniture in my office, I can say it’s something to check out if you’re into discovering new music. I honestly can’t remember the last time I used Pandora or Slacker anyways.
The app is very similar to the blog, where you”ll find categories of Latest, Popular, genre Browse and the all-important Shuffle. Anytime you listen to a song, it’s also accompanied by a list of other similar artists and a concise review of what the author dug most about the track. Probably the best thing about using Indie Shuffle is that the music selection (even on shuffle) tends to be awesome. You have a variety of genres, but they aren’t going to torture you with Top 40 garbage. Somehow they’ve also figured out a way to serve up music on the app ad-free and you can even favorite tracks to sync back and forth between the regular site and mobile app.
So yeah, give this free download a shot and send them your feedback because I know they’re listening and anxious to make it even better. It’s iPhone only for the time being, but an Android version is nearly here.
