Creative droppings

The mothership of creative agencies, Big Spaceship had a recent blog post that I really loved and wanted to throw on here. And while it’s not a book, the post had me thinking, “damn, that’s interesting”.
“It’s all about understanding the behavior of things, to see if relationships from different subjects are puzzle pieces that can fit together to form new shapes with weight and depth. It’s not insta-smartification; just another way of thinking and articulating a point, ideally an original one. Don’t count yourself with the sheep. It will only make your audience fall asleep.”

Criterion Blowout Sale!

Get 40% off Criterion swag from now until they launch their new site. Not only are their films the shit but so is their their hot new logo. I’m impressed.

Man, I miss George Carlin

“I think it would be interesting if old people got anti-Alzheimer’s disease where they slowly began to recover other people’s lost memories.”

“Here’s a bumper sticker I’d like to see: “We are the proud parents of a child who’s self-esteem is sufficient that he doesn’t need us promoting his minor scholastic achievements on the back of our car.”

“Do you think Sammy Davis ate Junior Mints?”

“The more complicated the Starbucks order, the bigger the asshole.  If you walk into a Starbucks and order a “decaf grande, half-soy, half-low fat, iced vanilla, double-shot, gingerbread, cappuccino, extra dry, light ice, with one sweet-’n'-Low, and one NutraSweet,” ooh, you’re a huge asshole.”

The under-appreciated art of matchbooks

This reminds me of Uncle Ken from Queens, who back in the 70s collected matchbooks for a living. A sweet selection of old and new here.
