Promoting social good is a must so when All Day Buffet asked us to do the brand identity and design work on their new venture, we jumped on the opportunity. TBD, as in “our future is To Be Determined” is a free newsletter that delivers one world-shaking idea and one collective action every week to improve our future. We knocked out the logo, website and newsletter within three weeks so the client could launch at The Feast Conference for Social Innovation. Is a better future really possible? You are where you live. If that saying is true, East Village is where I wanna be. Over the past couple years, the East Village neighborhood of downtown San Diego has gained momentum as a prime destination for young professionals, artists and entrepreneurs to live, work and play. Sure we’re biased (East Village is home to Holiday Matinee HQ) but it’s truly a great neighborhood that’s diversified with warehouses, lofts, social agencies, public transit, hi-rise condos, bars, a professional sports team, schools, block parties, graffiti artists and some of the best Mexican food you’ve never tasted. So when the neighborhood association sought to leave a lasting impression, they trusted Holiday Matinee with their brand identity make-over. Along with our co-collaborators BHausMedia, we re-engineered EV’s branding with a new logo, website, marketing campaign and social media strategy. The new look and feel continues to roll out and be embraced by residents and business owners alike.

THREAD is a dynamic two-day retail environment, bringing new fashion and art to more than 20,000 savvy tastemakers. Good style, value and karma is what you’ll come to expect from Thread. Since 2003, each curated show features clothing and accessories, art, music, books, cocktails, eco-lounges and more. Holiday Matinee was brought on to handle all design duties for their upcoming shows in San Francisco and San Diego. It didn’t take us long to conceive the quilt theme and from there we were off to the races. The campaign was so successful it was rolled out into all marketing and advertising materials as well as signage at the event.

The chic, trendsetting W Hotel lives by the motto “Whatever, Whenever”. It’s a great slogan except they were missing a huge opportunity to engage new and existing customers on a medium that consumers are utilizing for purchasing decisions. So they turned to Holiday Matinee and we built them a social media campaign from the ground up. Profiles were designed, tracking devices enabled and strategic content implemented. We developed a unique pipeline for communicating with customers, engaging in new conversations, increasing brand visibility and generating fresh leads for sales and PR. We even trained their marketing and communications team to ensure full confidence. The campaign was a huge success and continues to pay dividends. Whatever, whenever? You bet!

We didn’t come up with that tag line but it’s certainly fitting. San Diegans have long recognized Salon Tonic as a premier hair establishment, but after it was distinguished as a top salon in the nation by Elle Magazine, it needed an intelligent way to communicate this distinction. We built the salon a social media strategy that compliments its pride in understanding the natural beauty in social culture and hair. You see, Salon Tonic doesn’t just work on hair, they live it.  And now they’re delivering hairstyling trends, tips, photos and more to new and existing customers – all in a voice that resonates with their target market and consistent with the brand’s personality. The campaign dramatically increased Salon Tonic’s customer base and we fell so in love with their forward thinking, we even helped organize a party for their much deserved recognition.

“This Is Charlotte King” is a short film about an overly efficient meteorologist who believes she can help people through her noble heart and love for the atmosphere. THE ALBUM LEAF
A documentary film by Holiday Matinee

I had been managing The Album Leaf for several years. We had traveled to Japan, Paris, Belgium, Germany, Taiwan, England and all over the States. Now Jimmy was off to Iceland to record his new album at Sigur Ros’ studio. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to document the experience. The record company passed so I decided to fund it myself. I really wanted to capture the personality and creative process during this recording. Sure enough, the record company wound up including this short film on the album and over 20,000 copies have been sold.
