Before last weekend, I hadn’t even tried an electric bike. I don’t like the idea of being a lazy American and appreciate that riding my bicycle allows me to explore my city AND get some exercise. But since I was at Outpost and Vintage Electric Bikes was there, I figured why not give it a shot. And to be honest, I was surprised at how damn fun they were to ride. I tried both fully automatic and pedal-assist models and they handled extremely well on trails, going up steep hills with zero effort. You won’t get much exercise using one, but if you’re just trying to cruise around and get shit done (or have a longer commute) they are a very stylish ride.
Looking into the company a bit deeper, I really dig the craftsmanship and mission of getting people out of their cars. You can buy a hybrid or electric car, but you’re still consuming a crapload of steel and raw materials. These bikes may be a little pricey, but so is owning a car. But with these, it feels like you’re actually taking back your weekend.
