Bye bye plastic bags of NY

With a state ban on plastic bags hitting NY (probably for the best), the NY Times recently ran a nostalgic piece about their place in history. Do you have a favorite design?

One thing I learned recently is that the plastic bag was invented by Swedish engineer Sten Thulin who would be horrified at our single use habits, intending them to be washed and used until they broke. We must be careful to use any bag repeatedly as our reusable bags, especially cotton, use a ton of water and resources. Don’t just buy another trendy tote when you don’t need it.

p.s. This is a wonderful time to revisit our friend Nicole Espina’s Instaproject Plastic Bags of New York. It pairs photos of discarded plastic bags with real quotes from Humans of New York.
